The Canada Grain Act prohibits the delivery or shipment of bug infested grain into the Canadian grain system. Undetected bug infestations cost Producers money and time. The BUG Light incorporates the equipment design and methodology used by the CGC for detecting bug infestation, including larvae.
The BUG Light was developed to detect infestations of rusty grain beetles from larval to adult stages in stored grain, before it gets into the grain handling system. Fumigation charges at terminal unload can cost in excess of $6 per tonne. The return trucking costs of bug infested grain is even more expensive, not to mention a huge hassle.
